Thank you for finding my "home" on the World Wide Web. The purpose of this site is to introduce you to my music and my instrument. I've been playing the Steelpan for fifteen years and doing so "professionally" for more than ten. It is my belief that, despite its novelty and immediate allusion to "traditional Caribbean music", the Steelpan should be considered a viable and legitimate instrument unto itself. It should be recognized as being capable of producing beautiful and virtuosic classical melodies as well as the more common Buffet-like, "feel-good" tunes. It should be as widely accepted in a jazz combo as it is in a reggae band. I believe that his can be done without loosing sight of the rich cultural heritage that spawned the instrument on the Island of Trinidad over 75 years ago.
My musical tastes and influences are wide and varied and include classical, calypso, rhythm & blues, reggae, world, and, most notably, jazz. I have a newly resurrected interest in both jazz and classical music theory and enjoy relating them to the Steelpan. As you explore this site you will find samples of my playing in various musical situations, some original compositions (often not performed by me), and some transcriptions and arrangements of classical, contemporary and jazz pieces specifically for Steelpan. I hope you enjoy my website and my music - please visit often!
